Speed, sassiness and deathly focus poured into a pair of tube socks on wheels gliding for the win—how can one possibly say “Nay”? Ten parts grit and four parts eye-candy, if you’ve ever seen those roller-clad gams chopping through the track, you’ll understand the pure magic of the furious flurry to glory.
Dating back to the 1880s, what once started as an endurance race on skates that dabbled in theatrics decades later with a detour into sports entertainment territory like that of World Wrestling has morphed into a riveting contest of toughness and teamwork punched up with colorful outfits and even more vivid personalities.
This coming June 18th, fans of this colorful contact sport can indulge in a double dose of action. The Angel City Derby Girls (LA’s Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby League) bring you the Roller Derby Double Header! at the Culver City Veterans Memorial Auditorium with the Angel City B-team’s The Rocket Queens taking on Central Coast’s B-team The Rough Diamonds followed by the Angel City All-Star Squad, The Hollywood Scarlets as they duke it out with Central Coast’s A-team SK805.
